The Auburn Family Resource Center is one of CHSW's Parent Information
and Resource Centers (PIRCs). These community-based centers offer
a wide variety of activities and services for families. By providing
information, education and support, as well as links to other available
community resources, the Centers seek to promote the self-sufficiency
and well-being of families. Services in Auburn include parenting
classes, support groups, ESL classes, counseling, Early Head Start/Head
Start, family support, information and referrals.

Description:
Parents 22 years of age of less, who are pregnant, or have an infant six months or younger, can benefit from information and support. This collaborative program in east King County offers support services to help young families provide a nurturing home for their children. CHSW coordinates the parent mentor component of this program, which matches trained volunteers one-on-one with young families. Mentors support young parents by providing parenting information, help accessing community resources and a non-judgmental, listening presence. Mentors are asked to spend 3-6 hours a month with their family and to commit to the program for a minimum of one year. Bilingual Spanish-English volunteers are encouraged to apply. Qualified mentors will be aged 21 and older, have a Washington State Drivers License, and a genuine interest in supporting a young family. Applicants must be willing to undergo background checks.
