‘Giving it all back’ to children in need

At family and friend gatherings, Peninsula Auto Group owner John Dionas gives cheers to “health, happiness, and prosperity, and give it all back.”

John’s passion for helping others runs deep.

“My mother would pick a family in need every Wednesday, and she would secretly buy dinner for them,” John said. “She taught me that when you are blessed, you need to give back. I believe we need to focus on children because they are the future of this world.”

In total, Peninsula Auto Group has donated more than $150,000 in in-kind gifts and contributions to Children's Home Society of Washington and the Key Peninsula Family Resource Center for the past 12 years.

In March, John presented a $20,164 check to Children's Home Society of Washington from funds raised during the seventh annual “Share the Love” event, where the auto dealership donated $250 of each new car purchase in December 2014 to charity.

In addition, Peninsula Auto Group hosts a golf tournament every September that promotes public awareness around children in need on Key Peninsula. This year’s tournament takes place Sept. 16 with lunch at noon and tee time set for 1 p.m. at Canterwood Golf & Country Club, 12606 54th Ave. N.W., Gig Harbor.

The auto dealership also donates food for Children's Home Society of Washington’s barbecues and other events and gifts during the holidays to children.

“I have my children with me when we give during the holidays, and the best part is seeing them respond to the kids in need who are receiving the gifts,” John said. “It is a good lesson about being thankful and grateful for what you have. I hope someday my children will be in a position to give back themselves.”
