Family Resource Centers help families of all backgrounds and cultures

Time is running out to be part of creating bright futures for families!

One of the ways we create bright futures is through our eight family resource centers across the state. Each center provides a safe, welcoming place where families can find help with a variety of needs.

The Kapoor’s are a Hindu family who came into our center recently. They had multiple needs, but recounted how they had encountered difficulty accessing support due to their transportation and language barriers. Our staff were able to help with some of their immediate needs—like connecting them with a new car seat, diapers, and clothing for their children—as well as help them fill out applications for healthcare enrollment and other public assistance programs to address their intermediate needs.

We're able to help families from varied backgrounds and cultures because of our belief in hiring people who are from the communities we serve and who have lived experience.

Ayana is one of our part-time staff. She is from the Ethiopian community and was a former participant in our home visiting program. Because of her experience with the program and interest in helping other families like hers, she was hired to help with interpretation and facilitation of a Play and Learn group offered in the Amharic language. She also provides outreach to and enrollment for other Ethiopian families who could benefit from our home visiting programs and other services offered through the family resource center. Ayana and her daughters continue to be involved in the center in other ways and have volunteered at family events held by the center throughout the year.

Families who we help today often become the light for other families and continue to pay it forward. When you make a gift to Children's Home Society of Washington you never know the ripple effect of the lives you'll impact. But one thing is certain -- your gift will help create bright futures for families.
